Vancouver Art Gallery – TD Next

TD Next is a sponsorship program in support of artist projects from the Pacific Rim. In 2014 the Vancouver Art Gallery, with funding from the TD Next program, commissioned a site-specific sculpture from artist Douglas Coupland to coincide with his solo exhibition. The piece, titled Gumhead, is a seven foot tall self portrait of the artist. Until September 1st, 2014, viewers and passersby are encouraged to apply their own chewed gum to the sculpture so that over the summer months it is transformed, eventually obscuring the artist’s face.
